A look back at FBDM 2018
While my memory of the event is fresh, let me write down how it went and what I learned.
The organizers and volunteers were super helpful and I am truly grateful for their hard work.
Being in the presence of so many amazingly talented veteran artists is quite humbling. I didn’t have much time to go through the tables unfortunately. But I did get a chance to talk to a few of them, which is always a treat.
Alex (Tabulit Comics) was a great table partner. I’m definitely looking forward to attending more events with him.
The weather was a bit scary in the morning, but the sky cleared up in the afternoon and it became pretty much a perfect day. I felt that attendance was high.
Instead of keeping my original art for sale in my portfolio, I just laid it out on the table inside protective sheets. This was great because passerbys were much more likely to stop by when something caught their attention. This obviously lead to sales of original art. Yay! I hope they find good homes! If you bought one, I’d love to see pictures!
Following some pro advice from Boum, the two cardboard displays I built where very effective and many people stopped by because of those. I ran out of some prints and I’m beginning to have a better understanding of what sells (I think). Although this can change wildly with years and audience.
I would have loved to be there for the whole 3 days and it would have been worth it, no doubt! My schedule is just a bit too tight for it at this stage of my life.
